I’ll walk you through your museum setup one step at a time. Start by creating your curator profile and choosing your first five Starter Collection exhibits.

How Do I Start?

Complete Museum Orientation, choose a curator avatar, enter your curator name and favorite dinosaur, then choose five Starter Collection exhibits.

How Do I Unlock More Museum Space?

After your first five exhibits, read 3 additional books OR 1 book of 450+ pages. For the second expansion, read 5 books OR 2 books of 500+ pages each.

Do Expansion Books Automatically Count as Exhibits?

No. An expansion book only counts as an exhibit completion when it also fulfills that exhibit's reading prompt.

What Happens After the Second Expansion?

The full museum opens and you can collect exhibits from all available museum wings.

How Do Curator Ranks Work?

Your rank rises automatically as you unlock exhibits: Museum Volunteer, Gallery Assistant, Exhibit Assistant, Junior Curator, Curator, Senior Curator, Head Curator, and Chief Curator.

Can I Change My Curator Later?

Yes. Use Settings or the Edit button in Curator Snapshot to change your curator name, favorite dinosaur, or avatar.

Can I Use the Same Book for More Than One Exhibit?

No. One read can only be used for one exhibit. If you reread the same book later, the reread can be used again as long as its Date Read is different from the original read date.

Do I Have to Enter a Date Read?

No. Date Read is optional for a normal exhibit unlock. It is required when you use the same book again as a reread so the site can confirm it was read on a different date.

How Do I Change My First Five or Second Five Exhibits?

Yes. For your first five, reopen Museum Orientation from your curator profile and update your Starter Collection choices. After you save your second group of five, the full selection list collapses so your chosen exhibits stay easy to see. Use Change Selection to reopen the list, update those choices, and save them again.

Why Are Some Exhibits Locked, and How Do I Unlock Them?

At the beginning, only the five exhibits you selected during Museum Orientation are available to unlock. After you complete those five and finish the first museum expansion reading requirement, your selected second group of five becomes available. After all 10 selected exhibits are complete and you finish the final museum expansion reading requirement, the full museum opens and all remaining exhibits become available.

What Does Exhibit Coming Soon Mean?

The finished exhibit artwork stays hidden until you complete that exhibit. This keeps the museum reveal a surprise.

Where Do I Log the Book I Used?

Click any exhibit that is currently available to you. The Curate & Unlock popup will ask for the book title, author, optional Date Read, optional rating, and unlock method before the exhibit reveal begins.

Can I Backlog Books I Read Earlier in 2026?

No. Books read before you join this challenge cannot be backlogged into the museum. The only exception is for members who were already participating in the Dinosaur Reading Challenge before this museum update; those members may enter their past challenge activity so their existing progress is preserved. Please be honest when entering earlier activity.
